“简约”的主旨在于对事物本质的探究,用尽可能少的元素,去表现事物的内涵。简约主义并不是设计界所独有的,也并非最早风靡于包装设计领域。简约主义作为一种影响广泛的思潮,最初源于近代以来的建筑艺术,简约主义建筑风格的特色是:重功能,讲实用,以少胜多,以简胜繁。早在1892年,美国“芝加哥学派”的建筑师沙利文便主张“形式服从功能”,“如果能在一段时期内完全放弃装饰,以使思想敏锐的集中于形式完美的建筑和漂亮的裸体上,这对人们的审美情趣一定大有好处[2]。”20世纪以来,现代主义设计运动的如火如荼把简约主义理念推向极致,包豪斯的建筑设计师密斯·凡得罗提出著名的“少就是多”理论,精辟地概括出了简约主义的中心思想,可谓设计界革命性的变革。此后,简约主义作为一种顺应时代发展潮流的先进理念而迅速扩展到绘画、文学以及产品设计、家具设计、包装设计等方方面面。 近代以来,在全世界大力倡导生态设计的大环境下,包装设计界以“资源的最大利用”为宗旨,对商品包装设计进行了新的思考。“过度包装”是长久以来摆在人们面前的必须要正视的问题,据统计,城市生活垃圾里面有1/3都是包装垃圾,而这些包装垃圾大都源自于过度包装。在生态文明与可持续发展的呼声中,在现代人们简约化的审美要求下,“简约”包装设计思潮愈演愈烈,成为包装设计的主流设计理念。 用最少的和最单一的材料。包装材料的简化和单一没有造成单调和乏味,相反,简洁、单一的包装材料使商品包装看起来更大方。兴起于20世纪80年代并迅速在全球窜红的日本无印良品(MUJI),其最大特点就是极简,简约到只剩下素材和功能本身,而这种单纯、简单的设计却一经推出就吸引了众多的目光。无印良品非常注重包装材料的选用,它选择的是使产品包装看起来更加纯粹、简洁的单一性材料。无印良品的设计在极尽繁华、令人眼花缭乱的现代社会中反其道而行,删繁就简、去除浮华、回归本原、直逼本质,把简约主义理念发挥地淋漓尽致。 对于21世纪的包装而言,一种生长的概念,循环的意识和再生的观念,人与环境的亲和力、与环境协和相处的问题都将成为包装设计所面临的新问题。因此,从这个意义上说,包装不仅仅是一个技术性的学科,它深受人类社会的影响,同时也影响着社会[4]。对于包装设计来说,包装材料的选择关乎环境与生态,因此包装材料的选用就成为设计中首先要解决的一大问题。简约主义包装设计从环境与生态角度出发,在材料选择方面尤其注重环保性,对他们来说最好的包装材料就是取之于自然又回归自然的材料。通常来说有什么样的设计理念就会引导什么样的消费观念,简约主义包装设计所倡导的环保型材料引导的是一种符合生态发展规律的“绿色消费观念”。“绿色消费”是指崇尚自然、健康、安全、环保节能的消费理念和消费方式当下[5],绿色消费在欧美、日本等发达国家已经成为一种主流消费观念。以日本“无印良品”为例,见图1,无印良品在设计中首选纸质包装材 2简约包装的审美特征 传统包装设计为了引起消费者的注意,往往运用昂贵、多样的包装材料,炫目多姿的色彩,五花八门的造型等等,简约包装基于“资源的最大利用”,选择的是环保和可循环利用的包装材料,简单的色彩以及简约的造型。简约不等于简单,相反简约是对事物本质的深层次探究,看似简单的设计背后是对事物规律的把握。现代主义包装设计对装饰的排斥并不意味着无装饰时代的到来,而是以一种新的包装形式出现在人们的面前。正如英国学者彼得·柯林斯所质疑的“是否的确由于过分运用装饰而导致了废弃装饰,还是装饰只不过改换了打扮?”,答案是“装饰并未消亡,它仅仅是不知不觉地融合于结构之中了[3]。”2.1包装材料的适度性与环保性 “适度包装”是简约包装的基本理念。包装材料的选择是商品包装最基础也是最重要的环节,它首先要遵循的原则就是产品包装的基本功能,如保护性、便携性等。传统商品包装设计舍本逐末,舍弃作为第一位的功能性包装需求转向对表面美观的无限追逐中,包装的耗材过多、分量过重、体积过大、成本过高、装潢过于华丽,于是过度包装所产生的“美丽垃圾”愈来愈泛滥。简约主包装首先在包装材料上下功夫,提倡“适度包装”,适度包装把包装的基本功能重新放到第一位。

Application of “Minimalism” in Modern Packaging Design

The essence of “minimalism” lies in exploring the nature of things, using as few elements as possible to express the connotation of things. Minimalism is not unique to the design field, nor did it first become popular in the packaging design field.

As a widely influential trend of thought, minimalism originally originated from modern architectural art. The characteristics of minimalist architectural style are: emphasis on function, practicality, achieving more with less, and simplicity over complexity.

As early as 1892, American “Chicago School” architect Sullivan advocated “form follows function,” stating, “If we could completely abandon decoration for a period, so that keen thought could focus on perfectly formed buildings and beautiful nude forms, it would greatly benefit people’s aesthetic taste [2].”

Since the 20th century, the vigorous development of the modernist design movement pushed minimalist concepts to the extreme. Bauhaus architect Mies van der Rohe proposed the famous “less is more” theory, succinctly summarizing the central idea of minimalism, which can be described as a revolutionary change in the design field.

Since then, minimalism as an advanced concept顺应时代发展潮流 has rapidly expanded to painting, literature, as well as product design, furniture design, packaging design, and other aspects.

In modern times, under the global environment strongly advocating ecological design, the packaging design industry, with the宗旨 of “maximum utilization of resources,” has conducted new thinking on commodity packaging design.

“Excessive packaging” is a long-standing problem that must be正视. According to statistics, one-third of urban household waste is packaging waste, and most of this packaging waste comes from excessive packaging.

Amid calls for ecological civilization and sustainable development, and under modern people’s minimalist aesthetic requirements, the “minimalist” packaging design trend has intensified, becoming the mainstream design concept in packaging design.
